Great and durable!

These are durable, well-made boots from Danner, and I am so glad they are available through the uniform program. For some parks and situations, they might be overkill. I've heard a co-worker say they're too heavy. Yes, they're slightly heavy, but I think that's because of the strong materials used to make the boot. If your ranger work takes you on rugged trails or off trail, these boots are what you want to wear. They remind me of the time I had to put snow chains on my car. The before/after difference was amazing! These boots are like putting snow chains on your feet. You will have good traction, and you will not feel the rocks. They stand up well to a variety of terrains - river crossings, tundra, rocky boulders, mud, ice, etc. The leather upper is hand-stitched to the sole. You can polish the leather and make them shine and look nice. The green strings are also a great color. The soles have great traction when new. My feet feel very protected in these boots.
Break-In Worth It

These boots are an absolute PAIN to break it. They're incredibly stiff and heavy, and it took me about two solid months of wearing everyday and walking at least 2 miles a day to break them in. They were clunky and I had blisters. HOWEVER, once they were broken in, they became the best boots I've ever owned. I love these Danners and have considered getting a pair for personal use (even knowing I'd have to break another pair in). Additionally, they wouldn't be great for rangers in warmer climates - they're pretty heavy - but great for where I'm based in Alaska. Not a ton of great ankle support, either, since they have a low boot shaft.
THAT'S ALL WE HAVE
